Product review: nakd Crazy Cola Raisins

Who’d have thought it? How can marinating raisin and sultana’s in a natural cola infusion work? Well, it does. nakd, that make-glorious company who were on the receiving end of a very positive review for their Berry bar (here), have now released a new range of flavours to tempt us into their all-natural universe of other-worldly goodness.

Which brings us to crazy (sic) cola-flavoured raisins. It still sounds weird (heck, it will *always* sound weird) but as a family we all tried them and the unaninimous verdict was they were lip-smackingly good. Almost literally too, with a distinct undercurrent (ho ho) of … what can only be described as ‘fizz’. I don’t know if there was a psychological effect at work but I definitely felt a kind of tingling on the tongue, almost like an extremely subtle popping candy. Mrs P felt it too, so I know it wasn’t just me. Saying that, it *must* be a psycho thing as there’s nothing in the ingredients to suggest it’s been carbonated in such a way.

Taste-wise, the raisins were great. The raisin-y taste came through first, leaving the cola to linger (and fizz?) on the tongue. It’s not a full-on flavour but much more refined. Would dropping a bag of California raisins into a can of Coca Cola taste the same? Possibly, but without all the sugar that would entail performing such a heinous crime. Here, there’s no added sugar and the raisins don’t come across as *too* sweet.

The kids loved them which is a big plus in our book. It’s hard enough getting them to eat their 5-a-day so this lunch-boxable packet is a boon. As with their breakfast bars (or whatever they are), the ingredients are remarkably scant for such tasty fayre. No added sugar, preservatives or additives and they are as addictive as they’re made out to be. Another winner for nakd.

Apparently, Asda are selling these at 32p a pack which is good value.

These were supplied by nakd for review. Please note: all instances of nakd appear with the correct capitalization although I have missed out the umlauted ‘a’. It’s hard keeping up with these trendy companies.
