  • After being blown away by Levi Roots Caribbean curry ready meal, this effort had a lot to live up to and to be honest, I really wasn't expecting much. Tesco are the big enemy, the huge conglomerate squeezing us poor punters for every penny we've got and I've found their ready-meals to be the result of a hegemonic and executive boardroom approach. Nothing good ever came out of a boardroom, so said my Dad anyway, and when it comes down to the ready meal market, I'm inclined to agree. Often bland, poor value and downright yucky and that's just the Chairman.

  • It's a ready-meal adaptation of curry-house favourite Chicken Jalfrezi which is another of those strange anglicized dishes originating not from India but no doubt as the result of a late-night drinking session by some drunken munter. No matter, it's a tasty dish anyway and usually quite hot with a tomato-based sauce. Unusually for curries here in England, it tends not to be overly saturated with cream or clarified butter.

  • What's not to love about fajitas? Sliced and fried chicken, peppers and onions, a fiery spice mix and with big dollops of sour cream, guacamole and salsa, it's the perfect meal in your hand. It's hot and sweet and salty and sour and creamy and piquant and darned tasty too, when done right.

  • Supposedly Britain's favourite dish is not something that would be recognised anywhere but here. An amalgamation of chicken marinated in spices, tikka'd, then served with a tomato-based cream sauce, you can just imagine the indignation of the Glaswegian who first received his tandoori chicken without 'Grevvy'. The origins of a Tikka Massala are now lost to the annals of time and some say it was in London Soho while others reckon it was in Glasgow. There's another school of thought who think the dish resembles a more ancient recipe as served in the Punjab province. I prefer the Glaswegian one myself.
