Product review: nakd Cocoa Mint
Posted on May 22, 2012 | No CommentsAs with the Cocoa Orange before it, I was fully expecting some kind of better quality After-Eight mint, the tour-de-force in the chocolate/mint confectionary market -
Product review: nakd Cocoa Orange
Posted on May 22, 2012 | No CommentsI was looking forward to the nakd Cocoa Orange bar. It was going to be just like a Terry's Chocolate Orange wasn't it? And who doesn't like them? No-one, that's who. -
Product review: Sainsbury’s Egg & Bacon Sandwich
Posted on May 9, 2012 | No CommentsI'm not averse to a supermarket pre-packed sandwich but they can be awfully expensive when compared to say, a local sandwich shop and they're often hit-and-miss with the quality. -
Product review: Weetabix baked with Golden Syrup
Posted on May 1, 2012 | 2 CommentsThere are some constants in life. Sky is blue (or in England, a kind of dreary grey), grass is green (again, England's is more grey) and Weetabix have produced their unadorned breakfast cereal for what is probably a thousand years. -
Product review: nakd Ginger Bread
Posted on April 13, 2012 | No CommentsIs ginger man enough to stand up to those dates? -
Product review: nakd Cashew Cookie
Posted on April 13, 2012 | No CommentsAfter the nakd Berry bar I tried earlier, I was looking forward to this Cashew Cookie -
Product review: nakd Crazy Cola Raisins
Posted on April 11, 2012 | No CommentsWho'd have thought it? How can marinating raisin and sultana's in a natural cola infusion work? Well, it does. Nakd, that make-glorious company who were on the receiving end of a very positive review for their Berry bar, have now released a new range of flavours to tempt us into their all-natural universe of other-worldly goodness. -
Product review: Quicksters Flame-grilled Burger
Posted on August 30, 2011 | 1 CommentThe important difference is price. Expect to pay upwards of a quid for a Feasters or Rustlers equivalent but the Quickster is a mere 79p, not on offer, that is the permanent price. -
Product review: Aldi Soupreme Minestrone Cuppa Soup
Posted on August 23, 2011 | 3 CommentsLet's be honest here, powdered soup is as far removed from actual soup that could possibly be. It's essentially dried flavourings that turn into a savoury liquid when hot water is poured over the top. "Spaceman food", is what my Nan would have called it, her eel-head soup taking pride of place in her culinary repertoire. -
Product review: Rustlers Flamegrilled Beef Burger
Posted on June 2, 2011 | 8 CommentsIt's a micro-waveable 'beef' 'burger' made by Rustlers, those pioneers of other culinary delights such as the micro-waveable 'chicken' 'burger', micro-waveable 'BBQ rib' 'burger' and erm, other stuff you can put in a 'microwave'. -
Product review: Sainsburys Chicken Jalfrezi
Posted on May 9, 2011 | No CommentsIt's a ready-meal adaptation of curry-house favourite Chicken Jalfrezi which is another of those strange anglicized dishes originating not from India but no doubt as the result of a late-night drinking session by some drunken munter. No matter, it's a tasty dish anyway and usually quite hot with a tomato-based sauce. Unusually for curries here in England, it tends not to be overly saturated with cream or clarified butter. -
Product review: Tesco Light Choices Ham and Mushroom Tagliatelle
Posted on April 28, 2011 | No CommentsLight Choices? That's got to be so wrong hasn't it? I certainly would never consider eating a low-fat Mars Bar and if I ordered a Doner Kebab 'Lite' from the local takeaway shop I'm likely to find myself stuffed into a bin liner and thrown into a river faster than you can say, 'What wrong you? You leave shop. I call brother'. Alright Sister, calm down. Woah, put down that big axe, there's no need for th ... -
Product review: Feasters Feast Fiesta Fajitas
Posted on April 17, 2011 | No CommentsWhat's not to love about fajitas? Sliced and fried chicken, peppers and onions, a fiery spice mix and with big dollops of sour cream, guacamole and salsa, it's the perfect meal in your hand. It's hot and sweet and salty and sour and creamy and piquant and darned tasty too, when done right. -
Product review: Sainsburys Chicken Tikka Massala
Posted on April 16, 2011 | No CommentsSupposedly Britain's favourite dish is not something that would be recognised anywhere but here. An amalgamation of chicken marinated in spices, tikka'd, then served with a tomato-based cream sauce, you can just imagine the indignation of the Glaswegian who first received his tandoori chicken without 'Grevvy'. The origins of a Tikka Massala are now lost to the annals of time and some say it was in London Soho while others reckon it was in Glasgow. There's another school of thought who think the dish resembles a more ancient recipe as served in the Punjab province. I prefer the Glaswegian one myself. -
Product review: Innocent Thai Coconut Curry
Posted on April 2, 2011 | 2 CommentsJust who the blimming heck are they? Innocent starting selling smoothie drinks from a stall in a London Market in 1998. Using only 100% natural ingredients, they realised they had... -
Product Review: Feasters Italian Meatball Wrap
Posted on March 31, 2011 | No CommentsWarning: This is a review of a product containing meatballs and as such, I am duty-bound to fill this review with puerile, childish and adolescent humour. If this kind of... -
Product Review: Sainsbury’s Puff Pastry Steak Pie
Posted on March 31, 2011 | 1 CommentThe Worlds Saddest Pie With only a few coppers to my name, a Sainsburys Puff Pastry Steak Pie is about the only thing I can afford at 60p a pop... -
Product Review: Feasters Breakfast Baguette
Posted on March 31, 2011 | No CommentsWhat is it? It’s described as a Breakfast Baguette. It’s got sausage, egg and bacon in a small baguette. It’s really nice. It even comes with a sachet of tomato... -
Product review: Hunger Breaks The Full Monty
Posted on March 21, 2011 | No CommentsI’m just an ordinary working class bloke, with a normal hunger for everything that life can offer me. How did I end up on the scrap-heap, cast aside as the... -
